Rajat Gupta

Harvard Medical School, USA

Dr. Gupta is an Associate Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School, Associate Member at the Broad Institute and cardiologist at Brigham and Women’s Hospital. His research links human genetic variation to novel mechanisms of gene regulation and cardiovascular disease. His laboratory has led efforts to apply high-through cellular genetic screens, such as Perturb-seq, to identifying the pathways which link multiple genetic risk loci.

Dr. Gupta completed a post-doctoral fellowship in Human Genetics at the Broad Institute with David Altschuler and Sekar Kathiresan, and clinical training in cardiology at Brigham and Women’s Hospital and Massachusetts General Hospital. He graduated from the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine, where he received the Adolf Creskoff Prize. He has been awarded research grants from the National Institutes of Health, the Chan Zuckerberg Institute, and the Broad Institute. Dr. Gupta is the recipient of the 2019 New Innovator Award from the NIH Director for his project, “A Genetic Approach to Identify the Common Mechanisms of Vascular Disease.”

Dr. Gupta’s clinical practice focuses on the genetics of rare vascular disorders, such as genetic aortic disease and cerebrovascular malformations, as well as the use of polygenic risk scores to guide prevention of atherosclerosis in patients with high genetic risk.
